I believe that all things have a personality and energy… Using similar techniques to Jackson Pollock (figuratively vs abstract) I can bring your beloved instrument to life as an original work of art.
Just as Kandinsky sought to convey the connection between music and painting  through abstract forms and colour to create an aesthetic experience that engaged sight, sound, and emotions to the viewer…I have found a way to do this through my own form of figurative expressionist action painting, which I call ‘Expressionist Pop’.

The  music I listen to while painting as well as the character and presence of the physical instrument all play a vital role in the aliveness and energy of the final painting captured in unrepeatable moments through gestural action painting.

See how this works below.

HOW I WORK

This all depends on the size of the instrument and your location!
For smaller instruments such as : Saxophone , French Horn, Cello , the instrument can be bought to my studio in North London (or collection can be arranged) for me to work from life. I observe the light and energy directly from the instrument together with sound usually played on the instrument. I make sketches first to determine the composition and best lighting to stage the painting. When I start painting I tune into the musical energy, which flows into the artwork . The technique I use is similar Action Painting used by Jackson Pollock, but uniquely I do this figuratively rather than Abstract . As I have subverted this abstract technique, I have named this unique genre as “Expressionist Pop”.
You can see some other objects painted here.

The first day is spent making sketches and woking out the composition , and then when I start the painting allowing myself to tune in to music so that the musical energy flows into my gestural mark making to produce the artwork, using a mixture of industrial paints and additives to create the effects.
You should allow 7-10 days for the whole process (maximum 2 weeks), this can be variable due to climatic conditions as when the weather is warmer the paints dry faster.
